Painter Ernesto Ybarra says that when he is so close in working on a big painting it is a different experience; when he backs up and gets some distance, it is like a whole new painting. Are there parts of you that look differently close up? Are you shy in groups, but friendly when people get to know you? Do you have a sense of humor that people don’t understand until they get to know you? How does Ybarra show himself through painter? Could you see expressing yourself through painting?

Ernesto Ybarra says that it can be difficult as a minority painter because the community he comes from has to be okay with him representing them. Ybarra likes to capture the pride, sense of community and sense of belonging in the Latino community. Try to represent a community you
come from. How would you try to capture the community and the people? How would you represent them?
