Photographer Alec Soth has a new installation at the Walker Art Center called “Broken Manual” about people who try to run away from home. As a child, he tried to run away from home taking only a suitcase full of books. Would you want to run away from home? What would you want to take with you? Where would you go? Where did Soth get his inspiration?

Soth says that there is a difference between being a wall photographer and a book photographer. Does the final presentation of your artwork change how you create the art? Do you think about how your work will be displayed while you are creating it? Using your own work, or a collection of someone else’s work, create a book highlighting the work, then lay out a gallery of the work to hang in a museum. What is different about the two ways you chose to display the work?
