mno-buttonaha1Composer Chan Poling’s classical and contemporary jazz training inspires his songwriting for The Suburbs, the rock band he started in the late 1970s. After a decade of releasing albums, touring and trying to break into the commercial pop market, Poling put his rock-and-roll career on hold to compose for musical theater. He has composed award-winning work with esteemed playwrights, choreographers and arts organizations since the late 1980s.

In addition to musical theater, Poling finds success teaching songwriting at MacPhail, and collaborating and performing with artists from all genres, including with jazz trio The New Standards as well as with the recently revived Suburbs.
