Konstantinos Papadakis emigrated from Greece in the mid-1960s with only $63 in his pocket and has since become one of the most prolific Byzantine-style woodcarvers in the United States. Making his home in Minnesota for the last several decades, Papadakis’ work can be seen in the State Capitol building. While Papadakis carves both secular and religious works, he specializes in detailed carvings for Orthodox churches, including large iconostasis, or icon screens, some which measure more than 40 feet long and eight feet high.
