As the owner of the Rogue Buddha Gallery in Northeast Minneapolis, Nicholas Harper believes his work has been improved by observing the way people consume art. Featuring elongated necks, large hands and golden halos, his vividly realized portraits are inspired by Byzantine and Russian iconography. The long necks create visual tension between the head, representing the divine, and the hands, representing worldliness.

When viewed up close, the exaggerated body parts may seem out of balance but distance allows the various parts to come into harmony with one another.
