Author Wang Ping’s Kinship of Rivers project celebrates the universal experience of lives lived along the Mississippi and Yangtze rivers. In an effort to “give something back to the river,” Wang conducts poetry and river flag workshops with everyone from schoolchildren to seniors, during which original poems are written on colorful flags which will be strung together and hung along the Mississippi and Yangtze rivers, and in the mountains of Tibet.

In this web extra, Wang reads her poem Sonnet Crown XIII. Wang is the recipient of many awards, including a Minnesota Book Award, a Bush Artist Fellowship and a McKnight Artist Fellowship.
