Newbery Award winning author Kate DiCamillo is short, loud, hates to cook and loves to eat. She is also the author of 13 beloved children’s books; not including her latest which is co-authored with fellow writer Alison McGhee entitled Bink and Gollie. She won the 2004 Newbery award for her book Tales of Despereaux, and a Newbery Honor in 2001 for Because of Winn-Dixie, the book she claims made her career and saved her life. She believes that fiction is duty-bound to reflect the world we live in, and feels lucky to be able to call herself a writer. In this segment Kate shares her thoughts on writing, dogs, fan letters and embarrassing first drafts. Educators' Guide
