Local pop rocker Jeremy Messersmith’s shares the secrets of his songwriting process. A dynamic lyricist, his richly orchestrated songs range from melancholy love melodies to politically charged ballads. Messersmith gained a national reputation with his 2005 debut album, The Alcatraz Kid. Dubbed by City Pages as the “premier under-30 songwriter in the Twin Cities,” Messersmith’s personal melodies have been compared to the likes of Elliott Smith and the Beach Boys. Both melancholy and joyful, his songs transcend genre, a magical bend between chamber, rock and pop music. Messersmith’s music has been featured on NPR, World Cafe Live on WXPN, and MTV’s The Real World.
