All My Relations Arts

Frank Big Bear remembers living near the newly opened All My Relations Gallery on Franklin Avenue way back when. He was driving cab and raising his kids as a single dad back then. Much has changed for both Franklin Ave. and Frank Big Bear. He has since won an a Bush Foundation Enduring Visions Award and created a new body of work in oil paint entitled Frank Big Bear Paintings: From the Rez, to the Hood, to the Lake. It’s a show that celebrates his roots from the White Earth Indian reservation to The Ave (that’s Franklin Avenue) to his current home along the shores of Lake Superior. His show at All My Relations Arts Gallery is part of the effort to revitalize Franklin Ave into a cultural corridor.

Curator Heid Erdrich talks about the new gallery and reads from her Frank Big Bear-inspired poem, “Paint These Streets.”

Frank Big Bear Paintings-From the Rez, to the Hood, to the Lake is on display at All My Relations Gallery through Feb. 28, 2011. All My Relations Gallery is located at 1414 East Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis, and is free and open to the public.
