Music in Mears: Barbara Jean and The Melismatics

2015 marks the 12th year of Music in Mears and we are back with more then just great music!  Lowertown Entertainment District will be serving Summit beer and great food from their member restaurants along with a variety of food trucks each week! New Work – Shana Kaplow and Rebecca Krinke

Rosalux Gallery is pleased to announce Low Lying Area, an exhibition of new work by Shana Kaplow and Rebecca Krinke featuring a large-scale sculptural work by Rebecca and a suite of ink on paper paintings by Shana. The exhibition brings together the artists’ shared interest in the psychologies and complexities of domestic objects and spaces.

Mill City Live: Malamanya

August 19, 6 – 8 p.m.

Mill City Live returns for its twelfth season with four outdoor concerts on Wednesday evenings in August. Set in the museum’s dramatic open air Ruin Courtyard, “Mill City Live” features four great evenings of outdoor music by top local artists.

Malamanya is a six-member Minneapolis-based Cuban Son ensemble, composed of a diverse group of musicians who share a mutual respect and enthusiasm for traditional rhythms and melodies of Latin American and Caribbean music. Their onstage energy and compositions reflect the communal, complex, and celebratory spirit prevalent in these musical genres.

Caponi Art Park Summer Performance Series: Drumheart, Women’s Drum Center;
Barebones Production

August 23, 6:30 p.m.

For twenty years, BareBones has been stimulating audiences’ senses with their visionary parades, outdoor installations, and spectacle performances that involve stilts, bicycles and gigantic puppets. Performing in parks and other public spaces around the Twin Cities metro area, this collective of visual and performing artists is most well-known for their annual Halloween Outdoor Puppet Extravaganza.

Drumheart is the Women’s Drum Center performing ensemble. Performing world drum and percussion music, Drumheart enjoys providing energy, joy and spirit to events with their Brazilian, Caribbean and African music.

Radical Basketry Invitational

This exhibition displays examples of exceptional work by local basket makers concurrent to the National Basketry Organization’s conference in the Twin Cities. The selection emphasizes work by basket makers that push the boundaries of traditional basket making.
