Dunya Mikhail is an Iraqi-American poet. Originally from Baghdad, she became famous for her innovative and satirical poetry. Facing increasing threats and harassment from the Iraqi authorities for the subversive nature of her writings, Dunya was forced to flee Iraq in the mid-1990s. Her first collection of poems published in English, The War Works Hard, was shortlisted for the International Griffi.
